Senior Spotlight: Emma Grace Sprinkle

The first Senior Spotlight of the graduating class of 2016 features well-rounded RMA lifer, Emma Grace Sprinkle. Her excellence in the classroom, involvement at Rocky Mount Academy, and work in the community demonstrates all of the qualities that an Eagle should possess. Emma Grace is a great asset to our school and she will represent our school well wherever she goes.

Emma Grace is currently enrolled in all honors and AP courses, serves as business manager for the yearbook, and is co-captain of Science Olympiad. Last year she was a Science Olympiad regional winner demonstrating her ability to work collectively to accomplish a task. She was honored with Academic Achievement in AP U.S. History and Honors World Cultures, Academic Excellence in Honors English 10 and Spanish I, and is also a member of National Honors Society. She has a stand out art ability and was awarded second place in the Rocky Mount Academy Art Show during her sophomore year, excellence in Art II Oil Painting and excellence in Art II Figure Drawing. Separate from her busy academic schedule, Emma Grace is a key player on the JV and varsity volleyball, basketball, and varsity soccer teams and has been throughout her high school career. Outside of school, she is very involved in her church, Calvary Episcopal Church in Tarboro, where she carries the big responsibility serving as Co-Head Acolyte her senior year. She previously served as a Youth Delegate to the Episcopal State Convention and also volunteered at Vacation Bible School and went on a mission trip where she served the elderly. Emma Grace has participated in both the Meredith Leadership Challenge and the Shelton Leadership challenge and shows great leadership in both her school and community.

  1. When you were little, what did you want to be?

I wanted to be a veterinarian when I was a kid, because of the cute and fluffy animals. That ended after I found out what I might have to do to some cute and fluffy animals 🙁

  1. How long have you been attending RMA?

I’ve been going to RMA since Pre-K; I’m a lifer.

  1. Do you have a nickname?

I’ve got tons of them-EG, Emma G, Sprinkles, Donut, OG.

  1. What is the first picture on your camera roll?

A screenshot of an embarrassing picture of a friend.

  1. What are your pet peeves?

Slow drivers, arrogant people, loud gum chewers, mismatched clothes, and rude people.

  1. What kind of music is on your Spotify?

A little bit of everything- Fleetwood Mac, Tupac, R.E.M., Destiny’s Child (and solo Beyoncé of course), Bob Marley, Jackson 5.

  1. What is something in history that you wish you could have witnessed?

I’d probably have to say MLK’s “I Have a Dream” speech in 1963.

  1. If you could travel anywhere, where would you choose?

Probably somewhere in Europe such as Copenhagen, Denmark.

  1. Have you decided what colleges you are applying to?

I’m not completely decided on which ones yet, but I know for sure that I will apply to UNC-Chapel Hill, Wake Forest, and Vassar.

  1. What class have you enjoyed the most at RMA and why?

I enjoyed American Literature with Dr. O’ Brien last year the most because of the discussions and literature we read.

  1. If you could go through high school again would you choose to do anything different?

I don’t think I would-it’s been a good run.
