Alumni Update: Emily Ferguson

Olivia Turnage, Co-editor

Emily Ferguson, a member of RMA’s class of 2013, is the subject of this week’s alumni update. Read our interview with her below to find out what she has been up to since her time at RMA.

  1. Where are you from originally?

Good ole Rocky Mount

  1. Where are you attending college?

The University of Mary Washington (Fredericksburg, VA)

  1. Major? Why did you choose it?

I’m premed but am undeclared. I like biology, psychology, and sociology. I wish I didn’t have to choose a major but alas.

  1. What are your hobbies/interests?

Theater (singing, dancing, and acting). Sports, physical fitness, health, yoga. Cooking. Netflix, tumblr, movies, and eating.

  1. Have you ever been involved in sports, music, art, etc. growing up? If so, elaborate.

YAH I HAVE! Musicals, piano and voice, soccer, volleyball, and basketball at RMA, plays and musicals at the Imperial Center.

  1. Have you had any experiences abroad?

YES! I was lucky to study abroad in Paris in July 2014. I spent a month speaking French, taking an experiential medieval history class, and eating bread and cheese with friends from school, from Canada, and from Paris. The life.

  1. What is your dream job?

Traveling around the world, eating new foods, and trying new things, professionally.

  1. Do you have any big plans while taking some time off from school?

Traveling and experiences! My mom and I are going to a medical conference in Florida next weekend, and we are both in Mary Poppins at the Imperial Center. This summer I am going to Bonaroo music festival, a family beach trip to South Carolina, and hopefully a family trip to Poland, and maybe skydiving soon. Other than that, taking classes at Wesleyan and working to save for the traveling and experiences!

  1. What is something nobody knows about you?

I’m a mad juggler.

  1. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Hopefully just starting to settle down somewhere, but not too soon!

  1. Describe a person who has made the biggest impact on your life.

My mom. She is a caring angel who spreads her happiness, enthusiasm for work and learning, and strong work ethic to everyone.

  1. What are your biggest pet peeves?

I hate it when the toilet paper is not put on the roll the right way.

  1. Describe your dream vacation.

Anywhere warm and beautiful where I could do a lot of activities and exploring, especially things I’ve never done before (scuba dive, rock climb, go on a biplane or helicopter, sky dive, hang-glide, rock climb, hike, new sports, art, culture etc.)
