This week’s senior spotlight is on a longtime RMA student, Judah Calhoun. The Calhouns are no strangers to Rocky Mount Academy: Judah’s older brother, Isaac, graduated in 2024, his younger sister, Martha, is a sophomore, and his younger brother, Micah, is in the sixth grade. We are excited to add Judah to our graduating class this year, along with his siblings in the coming years!
Judah has definitely challenged himself throughout his academic career (he took two APs as a junior), and his senior year is no different, as he is taking Honors French IV, AP Biology, Honors English 12, and AP Calculus. It’s no surprise that he is taking the toughest math class offered, since, when asked about his favorite class, Judah said math because he has been good at it since he was a kid. Judah has received an A on the Honor Roll in ninth through eleventh grade.
Not only has Judah excelled academically, but he has also been a standout student-athlete, playing baseball from 7th through 12th grades and football in 8th through 10th grades. In his sophomore year, Judah led the Eagles in interceptions (4), helping lead Rocky Mount Academy to win a state championship in 2024. Along with excelling in these two team sports, Judah has also taken Weightlifting for two consecutive years, where he lifts an impressive 245 pounds on the bench and 425 pounds squatting. (For comparison’s sake, the average person only lifts 135 lb bench and 225 lb squat).

When he is not in the classroom or on the field, Judah is contributing in other ways like clubs. He is a member of the Stronger Together (which plans projects and helps out our Exceptional Eagles), Key Club (which is a service-based organization), and the National Honor Society. His favorite club, though, is the Fellowship of Christian Athletes because he is strongly rooted in his religious beliefs and appreciates the chance to do faith-based activities on campus.

Outside of school, Judah has a strong affinity for the outdoors. He enjoys many types of hunting, but deer hunting is his favorite because of the hard work that goes into it and the adrenaline rush he gets when it finally pays off. He also uses taxidermy to create skull mounts for himself and others who would like their own mounts. When not in the woods, Judah spends lots of time on the water, where he fishes (specifically bass fishing and bow fishing). He also enjoys spending time with friends and family. For example, Judah goes to Westridge Grill to play trivia and also likes to go on day trips to hunt with friends all over North Carolina.
Judah intends to apply to NC State and ECU because he wants to stay close to home and his large, close-knit family. He plans to major in Construction Management in hopes of becoming a project manager one day. We wish Judah the best on his college journey, where he can continue to be the smart, kind, and funny person RMA knows and loves.
