This issue, I am lucky enough to write a Senior Spotlight on my best friend, Katie Bulluck.

I would describe Katie as kind, funny, and caring. She has a contagious smile, and I am guaranteed a laugh whenever I am around her. She shows her caring nature by always being willing to help, whether it is letting me borrow a t-shirt or (before I had my license) driving me home even though I don’t live anywhere close to her house.

Katie and I became friends on the softball field, which is where she spends a lot of her time. She has been playing softball for Rocky Mount Academy since seventh grade, and she has contributed to the team’s success not only with her talent but also by being a great teammate. Her eighth-grade season, she played left field, and that team won the state championship; RMA was then the runner-up in the state championship the following year. As an individual player, Katie received All-Conference Honors in 2023 and 2024 and All-State Honors in 2023. Although softball is her main sport, Katie has also played volleyball (right-side hitter in ninth, eleventh, and twelfth) and basketball (ninth grade) for RMA, giving me more opportunities to spend time with her.

In addition to her athletic skills, Katie is a talented artist whose amazing artwork earned her the Academic Excellence Award in Ceramics in 11th grade and she is now enrolled in Ceramics III. She has made very impressive pieces in ceramics which include a china house, lots of plates and bowls, and her favorite piece, which is a piece of birthday cake (pictured right).
Her other courses for this year consist of French 4, English 12, Algebra 3, and AP Psychology. She is also a very active member of the senior class with involvement in multiple clubs: Key Club, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Beta Club, and the Global Studies Honors Program.

Something that you may not know about Katie from seeing her on campus is that she loves rescuing animals, especially dogs, and she hopes to become a veterinarian when she is older. Katie has three dogs of her own, Moose, Coton, and Bruno. Katie found and rescued Bruno last May, but this is not the only dog she has rescued. She has brought home and cared for multiple dogs and helped them find their forever homes!
Next year, Katie will be attending the University of Mount Olive where she has signed to play softball. She plans to become a veterinarian, and I think that will be a perfect job for her. I am sure that Katie will succeed on the softball field and in the classroom at Mount Olive, and I cannot wait to see what all she accomplishes!
