One of our three senior spotlights this week is an RMA student who has attended the school since kindergarten and is the son of RMA science teacher Dr. Wells, Wyatt Wells. If Wyatt were to describe himself in two words, they would be friendly and easy-going. Outside of school, he likes to spend time at his house on the water in Pasquotank County or hang out with his friends, playing card games or sports.

Speaking of sports, Wyatt is a tri-sport athlete. He has played varsity football his entire high school career at tight end and defensive end and contributed to RMA’s championship-winning season in 2023. This year, he led the team in receiving yards per game (52.6 yards per game) and was tied (with Ayden Lovely) for the most receiving touchdowns at 6 for the year. In addition to football, he played baseball for all four years of upper school (pitcher and first base) and basketball (power forward/center) for three years.
Although Wyatt is laid back, he still prioritizes his education and isn’t slacking off as a senior, taking French 4, Honors Calculus, Honors English 12, AP Psychology, and AP Biology; his lone elective is weightlifting. Wyatt is also an active member of many clubs on campus, such as Key Club, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Stronger Together. Wyatt is so passionate about his work in the Stronger Together Club that he says his perfect day at RMA would be to hang out in the Exceptional Children’s room all day talking with Cole and playing Super Mario Bros. WHen asked about Wyatt Cole said that he is “very fun to play games with and very helpful when I am doing math and reading.”
Wyatt has been accepted to ECU but has not committed to a college yet. Wherever he ends up, he intends to major in biology or pre-med and become a radiologist, so it looks like there will one day be at least two Dr. Wellses in the family.
