This senior spotlight is on none other than Kaylee Wright, who joined the Rocky Mount Academy family in eighth grade. I’ve known Kaylee longer than I haven’t–we’ve played softball together since we were seven–and I can confidently say she is one of the friendliest people I know. She is always smiling and can strike up a conversation with anyone.
Kaylee has challenged herself this year with a rigorous schedule. Her core classes consist of French 4, Honors Calculus, Advanced English 12, and AP Psychology; along with those classes, she takes ceramics with Mrs. Hunter, giving her an opportunity to show her creativity in her artwork. Her favorite piece from this year is the snowman she made, which you can see to the right. She also shows compassion and patience as she rounds out her schedule by working as an intern in the Middle School Exceptional Children’s Program.
Kaylee’s hard work in her classes has earned her many awards, which include: Highest Academic Average in Geometry and Most Improvement in Advanced English 9. The following year, she received Academic Excellence in Honors French II Highest Academic Average in Advanced English 10, and in eleventh, Kaylee added to her list of awards by earning Academic Excellence in Honors French III, Honors Precalculus, and Honors US History. To add to this impressive list of awards, throughout ninth, tenth, and eleventh grade, she earned a spot on the Honor Roll. Wanting to give back to the school, Kaylee is part of multiple clubs: Stronger Together, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Key Club.

Aside from her academics and extracurriculars, Kaylee also plays an important role in Rocky Mount Academy’s athletics. She played softball in eighth grade (winning the state championship that year as an outfielder), basketball (guard) from 8th to 10th grade, and volleyball from 8th to 12th grade. Out of all of the sports Kaylee plays, volleyball is her favorite. Kaylee was the team captain her senior year. Her position was as an outside hitter, though she also played defense, and she played the entire rotation (the whole game), which is unusual but impressive. I can say from experience that Kaylee is an amazing person to play a sport with. I played softball, basketball, and volleyball with her, and she makes every sport more fun with her positive attitude and her happy personality.
Kaylee plans to major in biology or health sciences and wants to work as a chiropractor or pediatric dentist one day. As a first step toward attaining this goal, Kaylee applied in the fall to the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, North Carolina State University, and Ole Miss. She hasn’t committed yet but has been accepted to Ole Miss and UNCW, so she has two great choices!
Kaylee has impacted this year’s senior class with her friendly personality and her kindness towards others. Her determination is shown in her success in each of her classes. These traits will surely lead to success in college and whatever else she chooses to do.
