Our senior spotlight this issue is about someone I knew long before we both joined the RMA family, and I’m so happy that Cameron Dawkins (also known as “Chop” by his classmates) is still my classmate and friend.
Finishing his high school career at RMA, Chop is taking Spanish 4, Advanced English 12, Algebra 3 Trigonometry, AP Psychology, and AP Environmental Science. Of these, Spanish is probably his favorite. He has even kept in touch with RMA’s previous Spanish teacher, Mrs. Forero, who retired at the end of 2023, letting him practice his speaking. His current Spanish teacher, Mrs. Bolivar, says that “Cameron is very resilient, hard-working, and always strives to do his best and excel.”
Throughout his time at RMA, Chop has been in clubs such as Key Club, Stronger Together (help with the
Exceptional Children’s program), and the Fellowship of the Christian Athletes. Sports is a huge part of Chop’s life, and he is a three-sport athlete. Wearing the #10 jersey, Chop played on the basketball team as a sophomore. For four years now, he has competed in the 100-meter and 200-meter sprints as part of the track and field team and excelled, earning MVP honors in 11th grade. I’d say football, though, is his main sport at RMA. Playing both running back and linebacker, Chop received the Coach’s Award for JV football in 9th grade, and in 11th Grade, he received All-Conference for his work with the varsity football team. Although he excels at football, his favorite sport is basketball, which he keeps as a hobby outside of school. Chop will tell you he does not have a favorite basketball team, but his favorite football team is the Carolina Panthers.
Other than playing and watching basketball, Chop has developed the impressive talent of coding, which is essentially computer programming. He writes scripts for computer games like Roblox so he can exploit them. He enjoys this because he loves to challenge his brain with something that is also fun.
Chop plans to major in Psychology at ECU and become a therapist. He has thought of doing either psychotherapy or occupational therapy because he wants to help people in need, which sounds like the thoughtful Chop we know here at RMA.
