Pop star Miley Cyrus has recently come out of hiding by releasing a controversial song that has led to fans trying to decipher the lyrics. Her new song “Flowers” was released January 13th and has been voted Billboard’s Favorite New Music of the Week, reaching millions of streams in the first few days of its release. This upbeat song is the first in her new album Endless Summer Vacation

“Flowers” has led fans to believe Miley Cyrus wrote this song in response to her past relationship with Liam Hemsworth. Miley and Liam dated on and off for years before getting married in 2018 and divorcing in 2020. Notably, their wedding song was “When I Was Your Man” by Bruno Mars. In Miley’s song “Flowers,” you can tell there are some allusions to Bruno Mars’ hit song.

“When I Was Your Man” Lyrics:

Mm, too young, too dumb to realize

That I should have bought you flowers

And held your hand

Should have gave you all my hours

When I had the chance

Take you to every party ’cause all you wanted to do was dance

Now my baby’s dancing

But she’s dancing with another man

“Flowers” Lyrics:

I can buy myself flowers

Write my name in the sand

Talk to myself for hours

Say things you don’t understand

I can take myself dancing

And I can hold my own hand

Yeah, I can love me better than you can

As you can see, there are distinct similarities between the two songs, with Miley changing a few words to help in fit with the theme of her song. Not only have the lyrics raised the fans’ attention, but the release date also has fans speculating as well. This song was released on January 13th, which happens to be her ex-husband Liam’s birthday. Fans do not think this is a coincidence.

The music video has been released along with the song. In the video, Miley dances around a Los Angeles mansion that is rumored to play a key role in the deterioration of Miley and Liam’s relationship. While she is dancing, she is wearing a suit very similar to one Liam wore on a red carpet years earlier.

These details about the song and music video are strictly fan speculation. Although some of these hints seem to be rather clear, neither Miley nor Liam has confirmed whether they are true. Fans do not have the full story, but they piece together the information they are presented, leaving them to wonder if they are correct. We may never know what Miley’s true intentions were behind “Flowers,” but it is fun to guess!
