Senior Spotlight: Stella Costa

Mary Kimbrell Livermon, Photographer

This senior spotlight is on a member of the Class of 2023 who is one of the most down-to-earth people I’ve ever met. Stella Costa never fails to make me see things differently when I’m upset, and she is always willing to listen and give advice when others need it. Since she is a lifer at RMA, her caring and uplifting qualities have contributed to making RMA a better place since she started in Pre-K. I always see Stella with a smile on her face throughout the school day. When thinking about Stella, three words come to my mind: outgoing, reliable, and funny. She is truly all of those things. One of Stella’s classmates, Emma Everette states, “Lots of things come to mind when I think of Stella. The Halloween hayrides around the neighborhood, sleepovers where we would stay up all night, trips to the river, and family ski trips to Snowshoe. I have known Stella for as long as I can remember, and all along she has been my best friend. Stella is loyal, caring, and honest. These qualities are what I, and most others can agree, make her so much fun to be around. She is the life of the party, but she is also one of the sweetest people I know. I am so thankful to have had Stella in my life for so long, and I cannot wait to see where life takes her.”

Stella’s course load this year consists of AP Biology, Trigonometry, English 12, Ceramics 4, Art 4, and Music. As you can tell, Stella thoroughly enjoys the arts and formulating something from her imagination. She is very experienced in Ceramics, and she has even made two lasagna dishes from clay. Because I am very new to Ceramics, I watch in awe as Stella creates such beautiful and complex pieces. She has also made a bird feeder, makeup brush holder, and a large bowl that sits on her kitchen table. She is attentive to detail and makes sure every line is smooth, which is definitely something I need to learn from her. I can’t wait to see what Stella makes this year!

Along with her academic course load, Stella is part of numerous clubs. She is a member of Key Club and the Stronger Together Club. She also is on the cheer team during the winter season. Stella’s true personality shines through when she is doing one specific thing: hanging out with her friends and family at her hunting cabin or at her house in Belhaven. Stella spends her weekends in a deer stand with her dad or in Belhaven going out on the boat with her family.

This fall, Stella is applying to North Carolina State University, East Carolina University, and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with hopes to major in Agriculture with an intent to one day be an agriculture teacher. We know that Stella will succeed in whatever she chooses to do, and we wish her the best of luck for life to come!
