RMA Promposals

Lauren Seale

Prom season is finally here! Friday, 4/20, was the day of Rocky Mount Academy’s prom, and the students here were very excited. The junior class has prepared what was a fantastically fun night of mystery and dancing, and the seniors are both happy and sad for their final prom. Both grades do have one thing in common they try to do before the day of prom (and hopefully before the couple of days leading up to it, too), which is “promposing.” For anyone not quite caught up with the lingo, “promposing” is when someone comes up with a cute way to ask someone to prom, normally full of puns and poster boards and sweet ideas. Below are a couple of ways the students at RMA have asked/been asked by their dates to Friday night’s prom.

Lillie Daughtridge and Bailey Beddingfield

Lillie was surprised to find none other than Dwight Schrute (aka, her boyfriend Bailey) in her garage holding a box of donuts and a Dwight-sounding poster board (“FACTS, nothing BEETS taking you to PROM”). It’s common knowledge that both love the TV show, as well as its humor, so this was a perfect promposal for them!

Gabby Hickman and Spencer Gardener

After one of the productions of Grease (our upper school spring musical), Spencer surprised Gabby with a posterboard (“I like the way you DANCED here, but will you dance with me at PROM?”) complimenting her performance, plus landing her a prom date!

Malone Bondy and Lane Price

Malone asked one of her best friends to Prom one day when they were hanging out at Sheetz (the usual) by writing it in the dirt on his truck. Some of these Nash county trucks don’t stay super clean for long, and if anyone knows Malone they know she LOVES a nice truck, so this was a perfect way for her to prompose.

Jillian Lavely and Thomas Newton

Thomas Newton asked Jillian to prom with some chocolates and a posterboard that reads “In case you didn’t know, I’m CRAZY about crazy girls! So, let’s get crazy at Prom???” She said yes, so watch out for some crazy people on the dance floor Friday night!

Marina Meffin and Joseph Petruzziello

Another promposal in Grease! At the end of the Friday night performance, Joseph surprised the audience by asking Marina to prom in a way typical of his character Roger, the KING of the mooners. He “mooned” the audience, and on his boxers “Prom?” was written. How could Marina say no?

Barrett Eidson and Garrett Janke

Barrett used her and her boyfriend’s love of soccer to create this Manchester United soccer themed promposal (MAN, U sure are good lookin’, I’d be BLIND not to take you to PROM?”) for him after one of his games!

Lauren Seale and Thomas Griffin

Thomas took Lauren’s keys without her knowing and slipped out (with permission) to hide this stuffed bear, poster (“I will be BEARY happy if you go to Prom 2018 with me?”), and “soap bear” he made in art in her car. Even though he couldn’t actually be there when she saw it due to a baseball game, she was surprised and sent him a picture of it saying “yes!”

Ann Margaret Taylor and Garrett Van Zant

While on spring break in Puerto Rico, Ann Margaret wrote out prom in the sand on the beach to ask Garrett to prom! She posted it on her story, and he responded a few minutes later saying yes!

Megan Seale and Trey Smelcer

Trey surprised Megan at his house with a posterboard (“I hope I’m not too late…. Will you be my prom date?”) and a cookie cake that had “Prom?” written on it in icing. She checked the boxes for both “yes” and “of course” (which were the only two options he gave her), so it’s safe to say they will be having fun Friday at Prom!

Casey Jones and Tanner Jernigan

Tanner got some help from Ms. Jordan Carter to get his promposal done! He had her give Casey’s AP Statistics class this “review worksheet,” and when they finished it spelled out “Prom with Tan?” at the bottom! Then, he came into the classroom to make sure Casey knew it was for her! Extra points for creativity, Tanner!

Caroline Gay and Corbett Cobb

Corbett surprised Caroline with a stuffed pig and a note (“It’s a PIG deal for you to go to prom with me?”). After all, who doesn’t love adorable stuffed animals!?!

Vivian Rogers and Elias Moore

On April 1st, Elias surprised Vivian at her house after church! Just to make sure she didn’t confuse it as an April Fools joke, he had a poster that read “It’s no joke that I’d be a food not to go to PROM with you!”

Haley McCall and Marcus Lerro

Marcus asked Haley to Prom after school one day in the parking lot. He and Haley apparently have an inside joke about peanuts (and if you caught it, peanuts is supposed to be spelled like that on the poster; it is part of the joke). The poster reads “I may not like PEANTS, but it would be NUTS if you went to PROM with Marcus!”
