Edward “Trey” Smelcer is a familiar name and face to many at Rocky Mount Academy. Much of our student body knows him through his involvement in athletics. His name is constantly on the loudspeaker as a starter at both football and basketball games, and he has maintained a position at #1 seed on the tennis team. On the football team, he is the starting kicker. He has participated in many football camps, and has even been recognized with free tickets to a Panthers game for winning their “Punt, Pass, and Kick” competition. In basketball, his height gives him an edge that few can compete with, and he is consistently a player adding points to the scoreboard. On the tennis court, he puts 110% into every game, every set, and every match he plays. Overall, Trey is a fantastic athlete, and is an asset to many of RMA’s sports teams.

If his athletic abilities are not enough to make him so memorable to so many, then his outgoing personality truly seals the deal. He is a member of both Key Club and FCA, and brings fun and conversation to both every time they meet. He always brings his extroverted and lovable personality to any event he is a part of. Trey has an ability to make friends easily wherever he is, with people of all ages; he can be seen in the halls talking with other seniors, and then joking with middle schoolers a few minutes later. His personality has helped to make him part of the glue holding the senior class together. The grade simply would not have been the same if he had not of joined our family in the 9th grade. We know that Rocky Mount Academy will be very different next year when he is away at college. Hopefully, we will be able to see him playing for the college in at least one of the many sports he plays so well.
