KC Royals Win World Series

KC Royals Win World Series

Last night, the Kansas City Royals were able to wrap up the World Series with a 7-2 win in 12 innings against the Mets, bringing the World Series pennant back to Kansas City for the first time in 30 years.

Up 3-1 in the World Series, the Royals found themselves down 2-0 in the 9th at a rocking Citi Field. Mets pitcher Matt Harvey was in rare form; throwing 9 strikeouts and allowing 4 hits and 0 runs through 8 innings. When the Mets manager went to send in the reliever in 9th inning, hoping to go back to Kansas City with the momentum on their side, Harvey insisted he stay in the game and finish off his historic performance. The Royals watched Matt Harvey walk back out to the mound in the 9th, and were full of confidence. After the performance Harvey had put on thus far, everyone in the stadium but the Royals were certain the Mets had Game 5 wrapped up. But the Royals dugout was full of smiles and laughter, showing the confidence of the team. The memo being passed around the dugout was “We’ve got them right where we want them”, and even the Royals GM Dayton Moore was seen saying “Get Ready. We’re about to find a way to win the World Series.” They spent the entire post season acting as being down were up… so why stop now? After big hits by Eric Hosmer and World Series MVP Saldavor Perez, the Royals were right back in it, forcing extra innings.

In the 12th inning, the Royals were able to score 5 runs, capping off one of the greatest October runs in history. It seemed every game the Royals played fans expected one big hit after another, having one of the most clutch rosters in the league. From top to bottom, the Royals could rely on anybody on the team, and every game, somebody would come through.

A year ago, the Royals found themselves heartbroken and the people of Kansas City disappointed after a Game 7 loss in the World Series. Teams such as the Red Sox, White Sox, and Phillies ended droughts and made their cities proud, but Kansa City’s wait was never ending, until this group of All-Stars came together as one. A year after heartbreak and disappointment, the Royals gave the people of Kansas City something they’ve been longing for 30 years. Finally, the people of Kansas City have something to celebrate, and they hope for many more to come.
