Prom 2017: Views from Under the Big Top

This past Friday, April 7th, the annual prom took place in the cafeteria. The junior class spent countless hours picking a theme and band, working on decorations, making invitations, and working on many other aspects that made Friday night the perfect night that it was. They spent Thursday and Friday transforming the cafeteria into the unrecognizable, carnival themed prom that we saw Friday night. The juniors did a great job and all their hard work did not go unnoticed.

On the day of prom,  juniors and seniors checked out at lunch, giving them time to prepare for the big night. The prom started at 9:00pm with the arrival of the seniors, who were quickly lined up in Proctor Hall with their dates ready to walk out and be presented. Ms. Covolo announced each pair as they walked into the cafeteria with a big smile and lined up beside their classmates. The first song of the night was to be shared between the senior class and their dates followed by another song for the senior class and their parents. Parents, of course, took thousands of pictures to soaked up the moment. And yes, there were even a couple tears. After this song it was time (finally) for the parents to leave the prom to the high schoolers. As the parents slowly filed out the door, the dance floor filled up and the night of dancing had begun.

We danced and danced and danced to a variety of songs from Fergalicious all the way do to the country line dance, Boot Scootin Boogie. When prom was finally winding down and everyone’s feet were about to fall off, it was time to announce our 2017 prom king and queen. The juniors and seniors voted on prom king and queen a few days prior to prom and were all anxiously awaiting to see who would get the crown. This year prom king and queen went to seniors, Thomas Moore and Elizabeth Ann Gibson. They shared a dance together and then the dance floor filled back up for a couple last songs to end the prom. Prom was another special RMA event for everyone. April 7th was a fun filled, memorable night “Under the Big Top”, enjoyed by all.
