RMA Spring Sports Battles vs FCS

RMA+Spring+Sports+Battles+vs+FCS

This past Thursday, March 16th, Faith Christian School traveled to RMA for the first match up of the spring, competing in soccer, softball, tennis, and baseball.
Soccer
J.V. girls’ soccer was up first, and started the day off with a 6-0 win over Faith. On offence, Lindsay Boyette scored 4 goals and Megan Walden scored 2. The girls also dominated on the defensive side which was led by Virginia Grey Newton, Porter Petruziello, and Jillian Bauer.  Varsity girls followed suit with a 6-2 win. Deborah Kitchin scored 3 goals, Isabel Smith scored 2, and Ada Everette scored 1.

Softball
Varsity girls’ softball came out with an 11-0 victory over FCS, stopping in the 5th inning due to the run rule. The girls started out strong in the first inning and never let up, keeping the Patriots from scoring and hardly even letting them get on base. The Eagles were led by Casey Jones on the mound, pitching a no hitter with 11 strikeouts.  The whole team chipped in offensively with hits by Mary Whitaker Jones, Gabbi Stewart, Julia High, and Ashley Wright. The win was a great way for the team to start conference play and took their record to 3-1.
Tennis
Varsity Boys’ tennis came up short against FCS in a 3-6 loss. Trey Smelcer won at number one seed singles and both number one and number two doubles won. Several of the other matches were close and the boys fought hard until the end. This team continues to improve each week and are hoping for different outcomes against Faith in our next match up at FCS.
Baseball
J.V. baseball had a successful start to the day with a 9-2 win over the patriots. It was an impressive effort from the entire team both offensively and defensively.  Varsity baseball followed suit.  Our varsity boys lost a hard fought game. They had difficulties at the plate and with a few errors in the field, FCS simply kept pulling away creating a larger and larger gap in the score. Reid Johnston started on the mound for the Eagles and pitched a great game with 10 strikeouts. As a whole, the Eagles definitely did not put their best foot forward on Thursday, but they are much better as a team than they showed and have already moved on, looking forward to next week.
