Senior Spotlight: Rachel Scott Dunn

This week’s Senior Spotlight features none other than Rachel Scott Dunn. Rachel Scott is a “lifer” of Rocky Mount Academy, and has been an energetic presence on campus for all of her years here. After spending even the smallest amount of time with her, it is easy to see why this senior is loved by many. She will always make the effort to brighten your day by breaking out in song, and will know the lyrics to just about anything. No matter what the situation, Rachel Scott will always be ready to jam out to a throwback to elevate your mood.

During her time at Rocky Mount Academy, Rachel Scott has played on the varsity tennis and varsity basketball teams. Her determination to succeed on the court is matched only by her diligence in the classroom. She enters every situation with the desire to be the most prepared she can be. No matter what comes her way, she will tackle the challenge head-on. Anyone who knows Rachel Scott knows about her passion for working with special needs children. She truly has a heart for others. This year, Rachel Scott held an internship at Benvenue Elementary where she put her passion into practice. She has also been heavily involved in Camp HOPE, an organization that hosts social activities and learning experiences for special needs children. Helping Others Pursue Everything, the very thing that Camp HOPE stands for, is simply a part of who Rachel Scott is. To learn more about this special senior, read the interview below!

  1.     What was your favorite class you took at RMA?

Definitely AP Psychology.

  1.     What are you most proud of accomplishing at RMA?

I am proud of being the owner of Mrs. McCain’s grim reaper statue.

  1.     What will you miss the most about RMA?

The relationships I have with my teachers and classmates. I have grown up with my classmates so not being with them every day is going to be a huge adjustment.

  1.     What is your favorite long lunch destination?

Obviously Chicos.

  1.     Do you know what you want to study in college?

Yes, I want to study psychology and work in the Meredith Autism Program.

  1.     Growing up, what did you aspire to be?

I want to be an applied behavior analyst and work with autistic children.

  1.     Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Working with Autistic kids and juggling my musical career.

  1.     What are some of your favorite movies?

Frozen and Annie, DUH!

  1.     What is something not many people know about you?

I mean I think everyone knows everything about me, but probably the fact that when I was little I barely spoke to other people…now I won’t stop talking! That or the fact I can call mallards in with my mouth.

  1.  Considering you sing a lot, what song is your favorite to perform?

“My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion

  1.  What is your pet peeve?

When people tell me to stop singing and when they smack their food.
