RMA Dominates FCS in First Match-Up of the Year

Julia High, Social Media Chair

This past Friday, September 30th our fall sports teams went to Faith Christian School for the first cross town match up of the school year. All three of our volleyball teams, both of our boys’ soccer teams, and our varsity girls’ tennis team competed. As usual, the day against Faith went very successful for RMA.

Our tennis varsity team had an excellent match with a sweeping 9-0 victory.  The team did not lose a set and several people won their matches without losing a game. Sophomore Haven Ross had an especially excellent match, winning easily and playing some of her best tennis of the season. The lady eagles’ will be finishing up the regular season in the next few weeks and eagerly looking towards the state playoffs. As of right now they are leading their conference, having an undefeated conference record.

Varsity Volleyball also had an outstanding performance winning in 4 sets. The girls played extremely hard and worked well together as a team, contributing to this second consecutive win. The team was led by Tiffany Chandler whose big serve helped carry the team to victory. This win will help the Eagles out in their conference standings as they look forward to the conference tournament. When senior captain Bridget Ward was asked about the win she said “If we played like that all the time our record would be much better, we really played as a team and supported each other”.  The J.V. volleyball also had a great day beating FCS in 3 sets with scores of 25-19,7-25, and 15-4. The team was led by 7th graders, Mary Whitaker Jones with 5 aces and 13 service points and Law Kitchin with 4 aces and 7 service points.

Varsity Soccer had a tough match-up and after a hard fight came out with a 0-2 loss. It was not the Eagles best performance, but there was no lack of effort or hustle. The team played hard until the end never giving up. The boys are dealing with injuries and a rather young team, but are having a good season and are already looking forward to playing Faith at home on their senior night on October 13th. J.V. soccer on the other hand, dominated, winning 4-1. Griffin Wingfield scored three goals and Reynolds Cobb added one as well. Christian Sawyer and Noah Walker each had assists, while Connor Sigmon and Isaiah Smith did an outstanding job controlling the midfield. Jack Pittman and Ramey Gardner controlled the defense only allowing Faith to score one goal. Make sure to congratulate this J.V. team on their 4th consecutive win!
